Household Hazardous Waste

Items We Cannot Accept

For safety and regulatory reasons, the Fire Department cannot accept or dispose of the following items:

  • Sharps containers, needles, syringes, or other medical sharps
  • Prescription medications, over-the-counter medicines, or pharmaceutical waste
  • Ammunition, explosives, military ordnance, fireworks, or suspected explosive devices
  • Hazardous chemicals or toxic substances
  • Radioactive materials
  • Biohazardous or infectious medical waste
  • Expired Fire Extinguishers

If you need to dispose of any of these items, please contact the appropriate disposal program, local law enforcement agency, pharmacy take-back program, or hazardous waste facility for guidance.

Important: Do not bring these items to a fire station without prior authorization. If you discover a suspicious explosive device, ammunition, military ordnance, or hazardous material, leave the area and call 911 immediately. Hazardous waste facilities and county landfills generally prohibit explosives, ammunition, and radioactive materials.
