Ocean City Wright Firefighters Respond to House Fire
At 8:40 a.m. Tuesday morning crews from the Ocean City- Wright and Fort Walton Beach Fire Departments responded to a reported house fire at 114 Michael Ave. The initial 911 call was received from a passer-by. The caller reported that smoke was billowing from a front window. The caller knocked on the doors and windows of the house to notify any residents. No one answered the knocking, and the caller was advised by Okaloosa Dispatch to not enter the residence.
Engine One from the Ocean City-Wright Fire Dept. was the first company to arrive on scene, less than three minutes after dispatch received the 911 call. Battalion Chief Robert Hall on Engine One reported “smoke showing from a single story residential structure.” The crew immediately pulled a hoseline, entered the home, and began attacking the fire. Ocean City Wright Engine Companies Two and Three, and Fort Walton Beach Engine Seven and Battalion Six also responded to the scene.
Approximately ten minutes after arriving on scene Chief Billy Lord, the incident Commander, reported that the fire was extinguished. Minutes later he reported that the house had been searched and no occupants found. Firefighters did however rescue several small dogs from inside the home.
The fire caused an estimated $20,000 in property loss and damage.
The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental in nature by the Florida State Fire Marshall’s Office.
